China - The cement output in Xinjiang fell for the year through May, which is rarely seen in recent years. On June 24th, it’s known from the office of Xinjiang Building Materials Industry that from January to May, 2014, 82 above scale cement enterprises in Xinjiang produced approximately13.91mln tons of cement on an accumulated basis, down by 7% year-on-year and the growth rate fell by 32.7% compared to the same period last year; In May, 2014, the cement output in Xinjiang was 6.36mln tons, down by 3.6% YoY and the growth rate fell by 21.9% compared to the same period last year.

A responsible person from the office of Building Materials Industry of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region said that according to the statistics released by the autonomous region, for the year through May, the investment in the fixed assets came in at around 180.76bln yuan, grew by 28.5% YoY, and the growth rate fell by 1.2% compared to the same period last year. Real estate development investment was 35.65bln yuan, grew by 21.8% YoY, and the growth rate fell by 7.4% compared to the same period last year. The stimulating effect on the cement industry from the investment in the fixed assets of the whole autonomous region obviously slowed down, and especially the real estate investment growth rate which can drive the development of building materials fell sharply. Overall, there still exists certain upside space in the demand of Xinjiang cement market in 2014, but its growth rate will decrease obviously. And it is expected that the cement production in the third quarter is going to rise.
